Fleck Encourages Local Students to Apply for a Legislative Appointment to the Valley Forge Military College
2/4/2010

Local students interested in becoming an officer in the U.S. Army are encouraged to apply for a legislative appointment to the Valley Forge Military College from Rep. Mike Fleck (R-Huntingdon/Blair/Mifflin).  The Valley Forge Military College is the official military college of Pennsylvania.

“This is a great opportunity for those who are interested in a military career,” Fleck said.  “Serving and protecting our country is an honorable career choice.  I’m proud that I can help one of our local students to realize their dream of becoming an officer in the U.S. Army.”

The Legislative Appointment Program allows each member of the Pennsylvania Legislature to appoint one student each year to the Valley Forge Military College.

In order to qualify, students must live within the 81st Legislative House District, have an SAT score of at least 1,000 or an ACT score of at least 21 and a minimum 2.5 grade point average.

Applicants who are chosen will receive an $8,500 scholarship to attend Valley Forge Military College, as well as a nomination to the ROTC Early Commissioning Program (ECP).  Students who are accepted by the ECP will receive a functionally 100 percent scholarship covering the majority of their education.  Students who successfully complete the ECP course will graduate Valley Forge Military College as a commissioned officer in the U.S. Army.

Applications are due to Fleck’s office by March 15 for the upcoming fall 2010 term.

Applications can be obtained through high school guidance counselors or through Fleck’s district office.  For more information, contact Fleck’s office at (814) 644-2996.
