Rep. Mike Fleck (R-Huntingdon/Blair/Mifflin) has recently announced the availability of $3 million in state assistance to small businesses seeking to reduce their consumption of energy.
The new Small Business Energy Efficiency Grant Program provides a 25 percent matching grant, up to $25,000, for equipment or processes that significantly improve energy efficiency.
Eligible applicants must be independent, for-profit businesses with 100 employees or fewer and be located in Pennsylvania. Additionally, the project must reduce energy-related expenses by at least 20 percent, with a minimum savings of $1,000 per year in energy costs. Past improvements are not eligible.
Qualified energy efficiency improvements include lighting upgrades, high-efficiency boilers and HVAC systems, geothermal systems, as well as building insulation upgrades and other weatherization projects.
Applications may be submitted through May 1. Grants will be awarded to eligible applicants on a first-come, first-served basis until the program’s $3 million in available funds is depleted.
