Fleck Applauds House Republican Budget Alternative, Criticizes House Democrats' Use of Budget Fear Tactics
7/10/2009
Rep. Mike Fleck (R-Huntingdon/Blair/Mifflin) issued the following statement regarding House Republicans’ announcement that they have an alternative budget proposal that holds the line on spending and does not raise taxes:

“We are now 10 days past the June 30 budget deadline, and the House Democrats continue to hide behind budgetary gimmicks and fear tactics, trying to scare Pennsylvanians and members of their own caucus into agreeing to an income tax increase. The people of Pennsylvania deserve to be told the truth, and the truth is that we don’t need tax increases to balance the budget.

“House Republicans have come up with a solution that balances the budget without increasing taxes or cutting vital services. Our proposal cuts out wasteful government spending and responsibly uses existing state revenues to fill the deficit. The state should be able to operate and maintain vital services with a $27 billion budget – if we can’t, then we need to seriously restructure Pennsylvania government.”
